Issue
The management team of India’s leading sports and entertainment rights business had developed a bullish set of forecasts. The core cricket rights appeared solid, although they could be lost on re-tender. The film distribution business was fledgling and uncertain.
Approach
AMR’s media experience was a strong starting point for this assignment. We then combined interviews on the ground in India and further afield with industry analysis and benchmarks to assess the business.
Recommendations
AMR recommended that the investment should proceed, based on the strength of management and its entrenched position in world cricket. However, we provided strong guidance on the film distribution plan, based on a mix of international benchmarks and understanding go the local market.
Result
The $125m investment proceeded including parallel investments from two other funds. The business continues to perform very strongly.
