AMR’s client was a leading specialist provider of aviation advisory services. It had recently taken on new management and wanted to identify the consultancy segments with the greatest growth potential.

Approach
AMR reviewed the underlying market trends in the aviation market, including growth in the global fleet and an increase in operating leasing and aircraft financing. AMR also reviewed the competitive landscape in aviation consultancy, identifying the key players, their portfolio of services, and their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, AMR spoke to a number of existing customers to understand our client’s strengths and weaknesses and identify any development actions.

Recommendations
AMR recommended that the client focus on winning new business in the operating leasing market, where it already had a strong track record and where it could win new business with more active sales and marketing efforts.

Result
AMR’s work was accepted by the client and directly informed their new business plan for consultancy services.

Insight from AMR’s research
Merely analysing global trends in aircraft leasing was not enough. Whilst the top 10 operating lessors were growing strongly, they were too large to be addressable. However, there were 15 to 20 mid-sized operating lessors with strong growth which would have demand for the client’s services.
