Peter Howson is a director of AMR International, specialising in support services.

Peter has over 25 years of M&A and business development experience, gained in industry and as an advisor. Prior to joining AMR in 1998, Peter was part of a small team which reorganised Turner and Newall (T&N) and managed its subsequent sale to Federal Mogul of the US. Before joining T&N he worked on the flotation of Dairy Crest and was responsible for business development at United Engineering Steels. He also spent three years in Corporate Finance at Barings where he focused on the engineering sector.

Peter gained valuable M&A experience with Tube Investments in the 1980s. He worked with the new chief executive on transforming the company from a UK supplier of mainly commodity engineering products into a global specialist engineering company through a series of acquisitions and disposals. His focus was due diligence and valuation.

Peter is a qualified accountant and holds an MBA from Manchester Business School. He is a regular conference speaker on the subject of due diligence and the author of four books:

• Checklists for Due Diligence, Gower, London (2008)
• Commercial Due Diligence: The Key to Understanding Value in an Acquisition, Gower, London (2006)
• Acquisition Essentials (with Denzil Rankine), Financial Times / Prentice Hall, London (2005)
• Due Diligence: The Critical Stage in Acquisitions and Mergers, Gower, London (2003)
