Directors

Denzil Rankine Denzil Rankine is chief executive of AMR International, which he founded in 1991. He has nearly 25 years’ experience of advising companies on acquisitions and strategic development throughout the world.

His early career was in the US assisting British companies to enter North American markets through organic growth and acquisition. In 1987 he joined the Seer Group and became increasingly involved in acquisition programmes. Denzil has now worked on hundreds of acquisition programmes predominantly with British, other European and American acquirers, as well as numerous private equity investors. He has been on the ground advising on agreed and hostile deals valued at up to $2 billion in over 30 countries. 

Over the past 16 years Denzil has grown AMR International to become a world leading commercial due diligence specialist with offices in London, New York and Frankfurt.

He is the author of five M&A related books: A Practical Guide To Acquisitions (Wiley), Commercial Due Diligence - A guide to reducing risk in acquisitions (Financial Times), Why Acquisitions Fail (FT Prentice Hall), Due diligence – definitive steps to successful business combinations (FT Prentice Hall) and Acquisition Essentials (FT Prentice Hall).

Denzil speaks fluent French.


Peter Howson Peter Howson is a director of AMR International, specialising in the industrial products, support services and technology sectors, with a particular focus on manufacturing, building and construction and facilities management. Peter has over 20 years of M&A experience, gained both in industry and as an advisor. Prior to joining AMR International in 1998, Peter worked in corporate finance at Barings where he focused on domestic and cross-border deals in manufacturing industries. Peter has also worked for TI, transforming the company from a UK supplier of mainly commodity engineering products into a global specialist engineering company through a series of acquisitions and disposals. Peter also held senior finance and M&A roles with British Steel and T&N. A qualified accountant, Peter also holds an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Simon Robbins Simon Robbins is a director of AMR International. Simon has over 20 years experience in commercial due diligence, corporate planning and strategic marketing. His experience ranges from managing board-level strategic projects in multinational companies, through to acquisition studies, business development studies and change management programmes. Simon has particular sector expertise in industrial products, chemicals, media and IT. Simon oversees the Frankfurt office of AMR International, having lived and worked in Germany for seven years prior to joining AMR International. 

Previous employers include the BOC Group, where Simon worked closely with senior head office management and local management across the 60 subsidiaries worldwide to develop business strategy, and Hoechst, where Simon held a senior European marketing role.

Simon has an MBA from Cranfield University, and is a member of the chartered Institute of Marketing.

Simon speaks fluent German.


Jim Easton Jim Easton is a director of AMR International, with a strong focus on media, publishing and the marketing services sectors. Jim has over 10 years experience in business development consulting, with a background in consulting for a global marketing group.

Within media, Jim has developed particular expertise in telephone directories and local search advising on a number of European transactions in the sector, including the €1.8bn buyout of European Directories in 2005. Jim has been a keynote speaker at the leading European conference on directories, and is the author of AMR’s definitive report on the sector.

Since joining AMR International in 2001, Jim has worked with UK and international private equity houses and corporate clients.

Jim is fluent in Arabic and French.


John Pringle John Pringle is a director of AMR International, with a key focus on the media and events industry. John heads the AMR International events team, with a portfolio of exhibition clients that includes the major UK and global exhibition organisers, as well as some of the major financial investors in the sector.

John has over 15 years experience in business development consultancy, having worked on hundreds of qualitative research programmes across various industry sectors and geographic markets.  These projects include market entry strategies, commercial due diligence projects and strategic reviews.

John speaks fluent French and Italian.
